Carrots like sandy soil. To grow carrots successfully, it is very important that you prepare the soil well by digging it over and removing any stones that might get in the way. If the soil is more of a clay type, then it would be a good idea to add some sand, organic compost and or garden soil to help lighten the soil and improve drainage.
